Amelia Abreu, UX Night School
As the events of 2020 unfold, doing “business as usual” in any industry feels difficult, and at times, unconscionable. Each of us has been required to adapt and change our work practices, and many of us are searching for ways to share resources and connect with others. How can designers, developers, and community workers collaborate to design equitable and just futures? How can we, as designers and researchers, engage with and create resources in our communities, both locally and globally?
In this talk, I will explore the history of participatory design movements and highlight community-based participatory action tactics and creative inquiry approaches, sharing actionable starting points for designers, researchers and technologists. Attendees will walk away with a broader knowledge of participatory and community based approaches to design, as well as exercises and action plans to use in their own work and communities.
