We will explore the role of information encountering (IE) and serendipity as a potential UX antidote to the threats of AI systems. Learn about the conceptual model of IE (which occurs when one is looking for information relating to one topic and finds information relating to another one), how UX features into the information environments for IE, and the characteristics of people who experience it.

About Sandra Erdelez, P.h.D.

As an information scientist, Sandra Erdelez has spent more than 30 years researching information encountering (IE), also known as the serendipity of bumping into interesting and useful information. In her talk she will introduce the conceptual model of IE, discuss UX features of information environments for IE, and the characteristics of people who experience it. She will also reflect on the role of IE and serendipity as a potential UX antidote to the threats of AI systems.
