“How not to let AI make people stupid” with Chris Noessel
AI is practically a force of nature, with massive growth and industry-shaking news coming weekly. One of the risks of this growth can be captured in a question: If we’re asking AI to do more and more of our thinking for us, is that going to make us stupid? Christopher Noessel is an Experience Architect at Autodesk with a focus on designing for AI, and in this capacity he has looked at this question and come back with an answer that gives some relief: AI only makes us stupid if it’s badly designed. About Christopher Noessel
Christopher is a luminary interaction designer whose career has been focused on design for AI since 2016. He teaches, speaks about, and evangelizes design internationally. He is co-author of Make It So: Interaction Design Lessons from Science Fiction (Rosenfeld Media, 2012), co-author of About Face, 4th Edition (Wiley, 2015), keeper of the blog scifiinterfaces.com, and author of Designing Agentive Technology: AI That Works for People (Rosenfeld Media, 2017). His most recent book Designing Assistant Technology: AI That Makes People Smarter (out 17 MAR 2026) helps designers understand the opportunities and mitigate the risks of AI assistants. In his day job he is an Experience Design Architect focusing on AI in Autodesk products.
